The club intends to follow the public health advice in addition to the minimum legal obligations so that restrictions may continue to apply even where not strictly legally required. To the extent possible pods should be maintained consistently from week to week but the composition of each pod may be adjusted if necessary. In this event social distance must be maintained between pods at all times and no mixing or contact between pods is permitted. With a fifteen person squad, for example, coaches may prefer to have three pods of 5 rather than two and a half pods of 6. Where not every player has confirmed that they are vaccinated then players must be divided into pods of no more than 6 players. If EVERY player on the team is in a position to confirm that they have been vaccinated then training can resume in the ordinary way, without separation into pods. No player is obliged to disclose whether they have been vaccinated if they prefer not to do so. Fully vaccinated in this context means that all doses of vaccine have been received and the appropriate waiting period following the final dose has expired. Where only one coach is present for an underage team one adult observer can be permitted for child protection reasons.Ĭoaches should ask their team to confirm, by way of a private communication, to the coach concerned whether each player has been fully vaccinated. In all cases facemasks should be worn indoors except when actively training, good personal hygiene measures should be observed and no parents or other observers should be permitted to observe the training or inside the gym. Personal responsibility is therefore key to the return to basketball. Individuals must remember that there can never be risk-free basketball and any basketball activity will come with inherent COVID-19 risks until there is a proven vaccine or treatment and a significant reduction of the disease in the population.
